Few Questions

Hello again :)

I've been trying out autoview today, I like its capabilities so far. I have a few questions though.

1.Why do I need a streaming server ? I could just upload video files in moodle and when users view a presentation the videos can be streamed from there.

2.How much will the conversion tool and the live caputre applet will cost?

3.Do I need to buy a licence in order to create quicktime, real meadia and winodws media ?

1) You don't need a streaming server, you can just upload the files and this will work fine, the module is designed with this usage in mind. Using a streaming server will improve the performance of the videos and reduce the load on the main webserver. We use streaming for most of our videos.

2) Neither of these services is finished yet and we have yet to discussed pricing in detail.

3) You'll need a licence from Apple for Quicktime Pro to create QT videos, but there are other way of creating QT videos (eg use VideoLAN VLC to create an MP4 file). MS and Real both have free encoders available. You'll find links to the relevant encoders on the 'How to use this module' page. In theory any video that will play with one of the standard plugins and has a rate low enough to work as a progressive download should work.

The Moodle module is licenced under the GPL, so you do not need any licences from us to use any of it's functions.
