Odd error. "no languages have been configured"
by colin opseth - Friday, 31 July 2009, 10:18 PM

hey guys,
Excellent mod. I think it's one of the top five mods for Moodle. Unfortunately, I can't load mine! When I try to load view.php I get the error "No languages have been configured."

Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Colin

This isn't necessarily indicative of a problem, it just means that the presentation hasn't been configured yet. That said you shouldn't see this for a new blank presentation, your preferred language is normally added by default.

1) What steps did you take before seeing this message ?
2) Do the editing functions still work ?
3) Does accessing /mod/autoview/test.php with your browser report everything as being OK ?

I'm getting this problem too!

Tim - in response to your questions:

1) Installed autoview by copying the folder in the mod directory, went to notifications in moodle and db migration went OK. Then went to a course and added AutoView as an activity, gave it a name and left the checkboxes to their default values and pressed update. Then it tried to load the AutoView page and I got this error message. On pressing OK, the page is blank (see attachment).

2) No - I cannot access them (see attachment)

3) I visited that webpage and everything reported OK.

I'm using autoview-2010042801.zip found on this webpage

I just tried this on Internet Explorer, and it gave me more details about the javascript errors on the page:

Solved it!!!

After a LOT of debugging I found out my moodle data directory didn't have the correct permissions on it so autoview couldn't write the config.avx file out. Because it didn't have the config file, it was missing several pieces of information during the XSLT transformations.

When I changed the moodle data directory permissions and recreated the AutoView activity, it wrote the config file out and everything worked as a breeze!

Tim - Maybe the test.php script should check if it can write into the data directory? That would help people who come across this issue in future.

I'll put a write test into the next release version. Thanks for the suggestion.
