Global search for autoview

Hi Tim,

I finished structuring our moodle network, and will now take more time with my assistant for Autoview. We are working hard for a demonstrator we have to produce for the UNESCO in France on 18 May.

I got the Adobe Search Licence for searching in SWF files for indexing. I have the executables (untried yet). Unfortunately, I checked with MartinD the compatibility of the Adobe Licencing for search with Moodle GPL : it will not be compatible for Moodle integration as standard.

I guess you would distribute on your own way the search engine extension that will come with Autoview module. I will work on an adpatation of the search engine that will look for search API in modules themselves, so Autoview could be distributed fitted with its "third party adaptor for searching".

Over Autoview integration I will give you a feedback from my assistant who experimented some sync issues (I wasn't told more than that...).

Regards.

I can't say that i'm entirely surprised about the licencing issue. I don't think it'll be too much of a problem to simply include a few basic instructions on how to tie in the Adobe binaries and make individual users agree to the licence, download and install it themselves.

It'll certainly be very useful if the search function can find search code inside the modules themselves, since some presentations will have a printable PDF version, I can tie the code into this and the subtitles by default with the swf reading functions for anybody who's feeling a bit more brave.

Another thought which occurs to me would be an option to allow the presentation creator to include a text only export of the slides as part of the presentation config.

SWF search support has been delivered to Moodle HQ and works fine. Moodle will not distribute any SWF converters, but we will point to the Adobe Licensing online website.

So am i ready to start thinking about the autoview search document...

Cheers.
