Problems with alignment

Hi, we try your autoview module.
It's a very interesting module and I'm writing in order to know some technical informations.

We aren't able to keep justified in time the slides with the video, even if the opposite direction are good.

So we can move to one other slide and the video is aligned.

But, when the video is playing, the slides doesn't move accordingly to the information provided in the XML (indeed the slides doesn't move in any case :-( )

We cannot understand the reason of this strange behaviour, we tried with video of RealPlayer and QuickTime format.

One other question is about the marker 'Does the video have event triggers': what's the meaning? which type of video need it?

Thanks a lot, Luca Mazzola.

Thanks for posting on the forum ! Check the following things :

  • Check that the Sync button on the top right of the presentation says 'Sync on' NOT 'Sync Off' (or equivalent if the interface is not set to english). Click the button to toggle bettween the two.
  • The number of slides in your presentation is not automatically detected, make sure you have set this in the slide sources section.
  • If you are using firefox, have a look at the error console (tools>error console or javascript: in the url bar) and see if there are any javascript errors. Don't worry about style sheet errors.
  • Security settings on your browser or problems with your installed plugins might be preventing the necessary interactions between the browser and the plugins that are needed to control the slides. Does slide sync work when you use the demo presentation on this website ?
  • There was a sync bug in one of the earlier releases that affected QuickTime, so make sure you have the latest version of the module.

Also, if you want to attach the .avx file created for your presentation to a message on this forum, i'll have a quick look at it to make sure that everything has been set up correctly.

One other question is about the marker 'Does the video have event triggers': what's the meaning? which type of video need it?

Historically, most presentation systems (including AutoView) have used triggers embedded into the video files to control the synchronisation of the video with the slides. This is usually done with programmes such as rmevents (for Real Player) or the Windows Media File editor.

The Moodle module now uses a video monitoring method to achieve this, thus simplifying the steps needed to produce a presentation synchronised with slides and making a web based interface possible. The option you refer to simply allows a user to use a video file which has the embedded triggers described above instead of the new monitoring method. Unless you've done special processing on the video files (I've not documented the necessary trigger codes yet, so this is unlikely), you should leave this option unchecked. Switching it on will disable the video position monitoring and cause the slide synchronisation to stop working.
